Replace the iPhone battery, or buy a new phone?
When a battery replacement is enough and when a new phone makes sense. How to check your iPhone battery health, what a replacement costs and what to weigh up.
Is your iPhone draining faster than it used to, shutting down in cold weather or dying at 30 %? In most cases the phone is not broken — the battery is worn out, and that is a cheap fix.
How to check your battery health
Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. The number that matters is Maximum Capacity:
- 85–100 % — the battery is fine.
- 80–85 % — noticeably shorter runtime; a replacement is already worth it.
- below 80 % — the phone may shut down on its own; replacement is strongly recommended.
When a battery replacement is enough
If the phone is otherwise fine — the screen, the camera and the performance still suit you — a new battery is the cheapest way to get its original runtime back. Prices start at €49 and we do the swap at your location in 30 minutes. Details are on the iPhone repair page.
When to consider a new phone
A new iPhone makes sense if:
- several things are wrong at once (worn battery and a cracked screen and a weak camera),
- the phone no longer receives iOS updates,
- you need a significantly better camera or more performance.
A simple rule of thumb
If the repair would cost less than a third of the price of a new phone and the rest of the device works, repairing is almost always the better call. You save money and keep one more device out of the electronic waste stream.
